Jim Henson is my hero.

Everyone has their hero. Whether its an athlete, author, politician, actor and so on. Mine personally is Jim Henson. I have always loved The Muppets since I was a child which also led into his other full length films. I remember my first crush was David Bowie circa Labyrinth(along with tons of other girls). Jim Henson was a visionary and had a childlike optimism that society no longer has. He believed the child in us brought out the most creative and inspiring ideas to lead us in life. How many of us grew up on Kermit the frog's positive look on life? Or tried to imitate Swedish Chef's accent or even cooking? Or even try to become scientist like Dr Honeydew? Jim had a way of instilling positive views into children and adults alike. I could spend hours listening to Fozzie bears silly jokes. While we all are trying to really find out what Gonzo is. Some of us even strive to find a love as strong as Miss Piggy and Kermit.

I live by some of Jim's quotes until this day and will always remember the impact he has had in my life. Not only by being an amazing puppeteer but also for being an amazing human. So its time to play the music, it's time to light the lights, its time to meet the Muppets on The Muppet Show tonight!

I eat ice!

I probably shouldn't be so excited about that but its 100% true. I am not talking about I chew on ice once I finish a drink. I literally eat about 2 big cups of ice a day. Its spiraling out of control though. Sometimes food won't sound good but a pound of ice sounds like the best thing on earth. Poor people in Africa are dying of starvation and I would rather eat frozen water.....that's pretty sad.

I've done the research and its terrible for you. It ruins your jaw and teeth. That sure doesn't stop me though. I am anemic and blame all the ice chewing on that. Really its all my fault....I should have restraint or limits but I have zero will power(how I have been vegetarian for 3 years is beyond me). It is kind of embarrassing to have people criticize your bad habits but when people get annoyed with you is even worse.

I wish I could stop it but its seriously so addicting. Hence why I am chewing ice right now. Maybe I need to be on intervention but I think staying hydrated isn't really that bad compared to meth mouth. So there it is....I am admitting I have an addiction and I need help.

Thank you and goodnight.

Bye NW :(

Well it has been a great 3 weeks but it is time for me to head back to San Diego. I have enjoyed my stay with my family and my sick pups. I wish I could just transfer my social life to Portland and live happily ever after. Except that is not possible what so ever. I am sure within a few months I will be planning my next trip. Tim and I are thinking Christmas time, which would be awesome! It has been a great summer here. Clear skies, hot days and cool nights. Everything about the NW makes me feel like I am on cloud 9 but San Diego does hold some special people down there. I am really excited to see my best gal pal Jill, my wonderful sidekick Eric and of course my other half Tim. I miss these people so but family always comes first. I will miss my parents dearly and knowing me so well once the plane takes off I will get teary eyed and think about how I need to move here. I want to move here within 5 years MAX! I wont have a child until I move here and I wont buy a house unless I live here as well. There are so many reasons to visit PDX and I think everyone should come here at least once in their lifetime. Here are some reason you should visit:

-Great outdoor! Hiking, water falls, so many parks, trees all around....nature in general.
-Food! The food seems endless here. I used to think I tried a good amount of places but I am not even close.
-Food carts! There are roughly 700 food carts scattered throughout Portland.
-Beer! Portland was just named the beer capital of the US. Talk about keeping Portland beered.
-No sales tax! I mean, thats just awesome.
-Amazing coffee! Seriously, forget Seattle. Portland has some mean beans.
-Fantastic people! It never fails to surprise me as to how friendly people are here. Sure you encounter some jerks but the nice people make you feel like you are really someone special.

The list can go on and on. Mainly its just all around a great city and I think anyone will enjoy it. I am so sad to go but I know I will be embracing the ol' stumptown soon!

Album Review--Kimbra's Vows

I picked up Kimbra's album "Vows" about 2 months ago and I think its probably the best album of 2012. This album came out some time ago in Europe and Australia/New Zealand. Kimbra is a native of New Zealand and has quite a fan base over there but it is just now transferring over to the states. A majority of people will probably know her from Gotye's "Somebody that I used to know" but I believe that song does not showcase her vocals enough. Kimbra has a wide range vocal and can send shivers down my spine sometimes. Sometimes her voice can  be compared to Björk with the inflections in her vocals and enunciation.

The opening track on her album titled "Settle Down" starts off with a slick beat box technique looping it into multiple beats and kicking into her sultry voice. This is a powerful opening track that features hard  beats and killer runs in her vocals. She can get more intense and dark in her music with songs such as "Plain Gold Ring", "Come Into My Head" and "Good Intent". Her lyrics can be haunting and intense but at the same time so fluid and pretty. Her song "Cameo Lover" is more light hearted and upbeat. It gives her a more freedom with having a cute and sweet style of vocals and lyrics. She also has a song called "Warrior" that was one of the Converse "Three Artist. One Song" songs featuring Mark Foster of Foster the People and A-Trak from Ducksauce. I have no doubts that this song will take off. It has a very poppy feel but will still carry over well with the indie crowd. In my opinion the stand out track on this album is "Call Me". It is almost like an R & B song from the mid 90's with its funky bass line and powerhouse vocals. The bridge in that song is so fluid and seems some what effortless for her. It is one of the best songs I have heard this year, along with "Warrior".

All in all, this album is amazing and I would highly recommend everyone to take time to listen to this album. You will fly through it because it is so fresh and every song does justice to her vocals and artistic creativity. Check out her website and also try to catch her on tour!

Casinos....and fat people

I recently went to a local casino with my mother and grandmother to play some slots and dick around in general. I have only been to a casino once before and left empty handed. I had this crazy idea that I was going to win a crap ton of money this time around. I shouldn't have gone in with that mentality because that obviously doesn't happen to anyone(especially some lame white girl from out of town). Instead you find yourself stuck at a slot machine that is related to some movie you love. This is why I was stuck at 3 different machines; Sex and The City, Star Wars and Little Shop Of Horrors. I didn't get jack from any of these machines but it was still fun to go on a Jedi training with Yoda when you hit a sequence of symbols. Those skanks from SATC screwed me over and took a bunch of my money. Thanks Miranda, Charlotte, Samantha, Carrie and Big......especially Mr. Big. He was always kind of an asshole to begin with. Another thing that probably cursed me was the amount of smoke in that place. Ive never been around so many smokers. Its disgusting. However, many of these smokers were making bank so maybe that's why people pick up smoking to begin with. Even though I was losing money and smelling rank, I was enjoying people watching. You have your classic smokers as mentioned above but you have the token Filipino wives who wants "ONE MORE DOLL-A!" from their husbands, old ladies who no longer see there kids and can't find anything better to do, the scummy guy dressed up like he is made of money but is probably just there to creep out chicks but mainly all you see is fat people*. My favorite sighting of the day was this woman who sat down next to me and automatically started breathing heavily. It was some workout walking 50 feet from one slot machine to another. I wouldn't of paid attention but I kept smelling BBQ sauce lingering around me which I don't mind but I thought it was this ladies sweat and not really BBQ sauce. Anyways, it was BBQ sauce and onion rings which I admit is a great combo so kudos to her for knowing how to combine two delicious things. The funniest part of this whole thing is the fact that her onion rings got their own seat. Some people came by to sit down and she would be like "OH HAI THERE, ONION RINGZ BE SITTING HURR". She didn't really say that but it was obvious that the seat was taken by a Styrofoam container. I left the machine and went to tell my mom about one of the funniest casino things I have seen(like I said this is my 2nd time to a casino) to which she laughed. I then thought I needed to get a picture of this and knew I was a horrible person for wanting to do so. That of course didn't stop me and my mom said I was a bad person. I am not objecting that at all.

For the record that is a Star Wars slot machine and I was the only nerd in the joint to sit there and play it the whole time. Eventually Godzirra came to join me later which was a bummer cause I only got to do Jedi training once :(

Anyways, I went in with $200 and left with $100. Only $100 of it was mine, my mom supported my future addiction by giving me $100. THANKS MA!

*I am sorry for sounding like a horrible person and keep calling people fat but its the truth. No need to tell me I am going to hell for being insensitive because I already know. K thanks!

Book review (for those of you who still read)

I recently just finished up Jenny Lawson AKA The Bloggess book called Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir). This book has been by far one of the most entertaining I have read within the past few years. Jenny has an uncanny sense of humor that some would call offensive but I call it amazing. She spent the past 11 years collecting her life stories and put them all together in this 300 page memoir. Some of the stories documented in her book are horribly twisted and probably wont be funny or entertaining for the average person but for those who have a sick outlook on life should definitely read this. The book ranges from Jenny's childhood up until the present and all the moments that make up ones life. We all have moments in our childhood that have scarred us or humiliated us but the normal person will never have such stories as her. You can catch tales of her being inside a dead deer, living with raccoons (who happen to wear MC Hammer pants....no joke!), artificially inseminating a cow as a school course and much much more.....and that's just her childhood. Once you start reading this book it will having you laughing over the most outlandish things one could write but be warned- you will probably go to hell for doing so. Later in the book you are introduced to her husband Victor, this is where a majority of the hilarity ensues. Victor and Jenny are complete opposites but they have this love that one could only dream of. Victor often shoots down her crazy ideas and theories such as how she has finger cancer or that they live on top of an Indian burial ground even though she may have valid points. However throughout the book you not only see the funny side you also read about more sensitive and touching areas of her life. You may get a bit emotional over such talks about miscarriages, animals passing away and just growing as a person in general.

On top of the entertaining, horrifying, embarrassing and sometimes sweet stories unfold you come to appreciate her style of writing. She isn't writing to write she is having a conversation with the reader and has a sharp tongue with her delivery. She comes across as a snarky and sometimes bitchy person in her writing but it is what makes her more relatable (well at least for me). I feel confident in saying she will become a strong woman figure in writing and blogging. I strongly recommend reading this book, especially if you're into wildly inappropriate topics. As one reviewer put it "There's something wrong with Jenny Lawson--magnificently wrong. I defy you to read her work and not hurt yourself laughing."

You can find her book on Amazon or at most Barnes and Noble. Also you can check her out while she is on her book tour.
